Damar Hamlin Takes an Emotional Solo Moment on the Field Where He Suffered Cardiac Arrest

Damar Hamlin was emotional after the Buffalo Bills lost their road game in Cincinnati on Sunday, but not because of the game's result.

Local Bengals beat reporter Olivia Ray shared a video of Hamlin, 25, reflecting alone on the field after the game at Paycor Stadium, where he collapsed in January after suffering cardiac arrest midgame. Hamlin spent nine days in the hospital following his collapse and was diagnosed with commotio cordis.

"Damar Hamlin is alone on the field at Paycor Stadium postgame. An emotional scene as Hamlin spends nearly 15 minutes at the logo in Cincinnati," Ray wrote in a post on X alongside the video.

The video shows the Bills safety kneeling down to the Bengals logo while dressed in his team warmup attire.

Hamlin hangs his head low and slowly makes his way back to the locker room after the emotional moment.

The NFL star shared Ray's video and added insight into his thoughts on returning to the Bengals' stadium.

"Tonight was everything for me.. y’all don’t know the half of it. Trust me," Hamlin wrote.

On Instagram, Hamlin shared a video from his return to the Cincinnati stadium. "Head clear. Blessed & highly favored. Thank you," he wrote as Rod Wave's "No Deal" played over the Instagram story.

On Saturday evening, Hamlin took members of the Cincinnati medical staff who saved his life out for dinner. "Last night I had dinner with my heroes. 10 of the UC Medical Staff that helped save my life," he wrote in a post on X.

Hamlin added, "I surprised them with a scholarship named after each of them that will support youth in Cincy to chase their dreams. Wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them!"

On Sunday, Hamlin's Chasing M's Foundation announced the Cincinnati Heroes Scholarship, which will offer scholarships in the names of the 10 medical personnel who saved his life. According to ESPN, the scholarship opportunity will benefit high school and college-level students in the Cincinnati area.

In June, Hamlin visited the Cincinnati hospital where he spent nine days following his collapse.

In one of his videos from the visit, Hamlin shared a touching moment with Nancy Brown, the CEO of the American Heart Association. The Bills star gifted Brown a signed jersey with the message, "My best friend in the world!"

And at the 2023 ESPY Awards, Hamlin honored the first responders who helped save his life in a touching tribute.

Before handing them the Pat Tillman Award for Service, Hamlin told his story in a video, saying, “I didn't wake up that morning in January thinking that I would need someone to save my life that day, and I doubt that the staff thought that they had to do what they did either."

“What I've taken away from what happened to me six and a half months ago, is that any of us at any given time are capable of doing something that's incredible, in saving a life and living a life in service to others," he continued.

"It’s a blessing. It’s a responsibility. And it's the very reason why you’re hearing my voice right now. Anyone could be a hero. These are mine."

Nate Breske, the Buffalo Bills' head athletic trainer, accepted the award on behalf of the rest of the staff saying, “I'm humbled and honored to be speaking tonight, representing the Buffalo Bills athletic training staff... By the grace of God and divine intervention, we had the best outcome we could have prayed for.”
