Iconic Celebrity Met Gala Co-Chairs

Since 1995, Anna Wintour has selected celebrities to join her in hosting the event.

The theme was “The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion.” Sticking with the theme, supermodel Kate Moss co-chaired along with Justin Timberlake.

To ring in the new decade, Oprah Winfrey and Gap’s then-vice president Patrick Robinson hosted the “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity” gala.

The theme celebrated the life of famed British designer Alexander McQueen, who died in 2010, with Colin Firth and Stella McCartney co-chairing.

“Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations,” was the theme this year. Wintour chose Carey Mulligan and, rightfully, Miuccia Prada to co-chair with her.

Rooney Mara was the only celebrity to co-chair this year, but she was joined by Vogue editor Lauren Santo Domingo and Givenchy’s then-creative director Riccardo Tisci.

The celebrity hosts for the “Charles James: Beyond Fashion” gala were Bradley Cooper and Sarah Jessica Parker.

In the 1930s, James invented American haute couture by combining design and fashion to create gorgeous sculptural dresses like Parker’s here by Oscar de la Renta.

Wintour brought Jennifer Lawrence and Gong Li onboard as co-chairs in 2015.

Taylor Swift and Idris Elba were selected as the co-chairs for “Manus X Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.” (According to Swift lore, she met Tom Hiddleston here, too.)

Elba looked as handsome as ever in a Tom Ford tuxedo.

The theme was “Rei Kawakubo/Commes de Garçons: Art of the In-Between.” Pharrell’s look for the night sure was in between something.

This year, the co-chairs are skewing younger: Amanda Gorman, Billie Eilish, Timothée Chalamet and Naomi Osaka will co-host “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion."
