Welcome back to prime time, Zachary Levi!

The star of NBC’s cult hit Chuck is returning to the network to headline its Heroes reboot. Levi starred in the spy comedy that aired from 2007-2012.

NBC was mum Friday about Levi’s role in Heroes Reborn, which will continue the saga behind the 2006 series that chronicled the lives of ordinary people with extraordinary abilities. NBC ordered 13 episodes for the reboot, which it is calling an event series.

“One of my first, and fondest, memories of joining the NBC family in 2007 was having the pleasure of getting to know Tim Kring, and the cast of Heroes,” Levi said in a statement. “I was a fan of their collective work and always thought it was such a fantastic and fun world they got to play in. With Heroes Reborn, I’m honored to have the opportunity to bring more of that world to life, and excited to help in offering the fans of the franchise an epic new installation of a series that made such a huge impact on entertainment.”

The project already boasts impressive auspices. Heroes creator Kring is executive-producing the event series, and original star Jack Coleman (aka Mr. Bennet or HRG) has signed on to reprise his iconic role.

Heroes launched in 2006 with a stunning 14.5 million viewers but stumbled creatively in the second season.
