The Xs and Os were flying between X-Files stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson Tuesday night.

Now that the reboot of the cult classic is a go on Fox as a six-episode series, Mulder and Scully renewed their romance on stage at The Cutting Room in New York City, where Duchovny sang songs from his debut album Hell or Highwater.

Anderson, 46, joined Duchovny, 54, on stage, and the duo sang Neil Young‘s “Helpless,” according to

“Can we play some real music please?” Anderson joked when she joined Duchovny and his band on stage for an encore performance.

“Is there anything you’re in the mood for? he asked Anderson, who requested “Helpless.”

Following the performance, Duchovny and Anderson – who battled the supernatural as FBI agents Mulder and Scully on TV for nine seasons and in two films – hugged and kissed.

Production on the six new episodes of The X-Files begins this summer.
