Not so for pro Witney Carson, who tied the knot with her high school sweetheart, Carson McAllister, on New Year’s Day. Adjusting to married life has been nothing short of bliss, Carson tells PEOPLE: “It’s been so much fun so far,” she said. “I feel like everyone needs to get married because it’s just the best.” After their Utah wedding, the couple went to the Bahamas for their honeymoon, and since, have been working on creating a life together in Los Angeles, where Carson rehearses for DWTS (this season, she’s paired up with Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller –. Prior to getting married, the couple split their time between L.A. and Utah, making it difficult for them to do so. “It’s like having your best friend with you 24/7,” Carson told PEOPLE. “It’s so much fun!” Carson’s relationship is an anomaly in Hollywood – she met her husband back in high school, long before she became a celebrity. Having a piece of her past by her side helps her to keep perspective, Carson says. “Just knowing that I have someone who knows me before all of this started, someone who has always been there for me, through thick and thin, it’s such a comfort,” she said. “He totally keeps me grounded. I love that he’s not in the industry because he can bring me back down to earth.” McAllister has been getting used to life in L.A. since the wedding, and Carson says that while it was a “definite change” for him, “he’s loving it here.” She’s helping him adjust by keeping him involved in the show’s process and having him get to know her partners. And although Carson may have just celebrated her 2-month anniversary, she already has a bit of advice for her fellow newlyweds. “As long as you put the other person first, then your marriage will be great.” Dancing with the Stars returns March 21 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
