In a clip from Monday’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the two SNL vets stopped by the talk show to promote their upcoming movie The House, about two parents who run an underground casino out of their home to raise money for their daughter’s college tuition. During the interview, Ferrell, 49, and Poehler, 45, struggled to recall another parental moment — a 2001 sketch when he and DeGeneres played disapproving parents to son Seth Meyers‘ new girlfriend, Poehler. And though the finer points of that sketch remain elusive, Ferrell chimed in to DeGeneres: “But I do remember the sketch where I accidentally punched you in the face.” FROM PEN: EW’s Top Ten Rom-Com Movie Moments He added, “And I gave you boxing head gear as an apology later.” “That was really sweet,” said DeGeneres, 59. “I loved it. He felt so bad about it, but I loved that I got punched by Will. It made me happy.” She also quipped, “And I thought about suing, but I didn’t.” The Ellen DeGeneres Show airs weekdays (check local listings).
