As newly-out-as-gay Kenny on The Real O’Neals, Noah Galvin has won the hearts and eyes of America.

Galvin is able to hold his own against the hilarious Martha Plimpton on the ABC sitcom, but there’s a lot more to the 22-year-old than just comedy chops.

Here are five things to know about the young actor:

1. Working with Cirque Du Soleil inadvertently led him to becoming a cook.

“When I was thirteen, I spent half the year working for Cirque Du Soleil as a singer and was homeschooling throughout,” says Galvin. “But when the tutoring Cirque provided ended, I had zero motivation so I decided to hold myself back a grade and spend the rest of the year working.”

But the jobs didn’t come as quickly as Galvin had hoped they would.

“I spent most of my days watching the Food Network and cooking at night,” he admits. “Ina Garten is a person I hold in very high regard. And Jeffrey, her husband.”

2. He’s no fool…but he was one once.

“When I was a sophomore in high school living in New York City, I did my first Shakespeare play in my friend Ed Iskandar’s apartment with his theater company Exit, Pursued By a Bear,” he says. “I played The Fool in a five-and-a-half-hour, unabridged version of King Lear opposite Billy Porter, who played King Lear in half drag.”

3. He’s (kind of) got a twin.

“My mother, Abbie, is a yoga teacher at Katonah Yoga in New York City and has an identical twin sister named Carol, who is the designer behind the women’s clothing line SHOSH NYC,” says Galvin. “They both had two boys at similar times so my brother and I both have cousin counterparts. I look more like my first cousins than I do my siblings. We call each other brother/cousins.”

4. Talent runs in his family.

“My family is very close and we’re all creative,” says Galvin. “My brother, Adrian, is the lead singer of the band Yoke Lore. My cousin Julian Pratt is the frontman for the band Show Me The Body, whose record my other cousin, Gabriel Millman, has produced. My cousin Sam Pratt is currently playing Macduff in Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More, and my sister, Emma, is an award-winning audiobook actress.”

5. His life imitates his art.

“When I moved to Los Angeles for The Real O’Neals, I needed a place to stay and Jay R. Ferguson offered me his guest house,” Galvin says of his O’Neals costar. “So to this day, I live in an adorable little one bedroom home in my fake dad’s backyard.”

The season 1 finale of The Real O’Neals airs Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
