Forty is the new … 16?

Following in the high-heeled footsteps of MTV’s My Super Sweet Sixteen, Bravo introduces My Fab 40th, which features over-the-hill parties that are over-the-top, with lavish venues, custom cakes and dresses, high-strung party planners and plenty of drama.

The trend of celebrating big for the midlife milestone got some encouragement from the Real Housewives, like Tamra Judge of The Real Housewives of Orange County, who had a party on a yacht in Newport Beach.

Carole Radziwill of The Real Housewives of New York City sailed up Italy’s Amalfi Coast for her 40th, and Vicki Gunvalson of RHOC whooped it up at Andale bar in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico.

And OTT big 4-0s are not just for Housewives. Jill Kargman of Bravo’s Odd Mom Out had a John Hughes-themed black-tie dance (think Pretty in Pink).

Bucking her cast mates’ trend, RHOC star Shannon Beador skipped a fancy fête – she was six months pregnant with twins on her big day and had been put on bed rest due to early contractions.

Then again, Beador got the present of all.
