The television host, 54, grabbed headlines this week thanks to reports that she was hospitalized to sober up from a drinking binge and continued rumors that her marriage is in trouble. And while she’s yet to address the former on her talk show, Williams did open Friday’s episode by telling her audience where her head has been recently. “Long week,” Williams said at the beginning of her Hot Topics segment on The Wendy Williams Show, dropping a throat lozenge into her coffee cup. She also reminded her “co-hosts” that she would be taking a pre-scheduled break next week. “We are on vacation for seven days,” she said. “We will be back the following Monday.” Courtesy Wendy Williams Show Inside Wendy Williams’ Decades-Long Journey to Sobriety — and Work to Help Other Addicts Williams had been absent from her eponymous daytime talk program from January until March 4, attributing the hiatus to a fractured shoulder and her battle with a Grave’s disease, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. The outlet reported that at the hospital, Williams was given a banana bag, which is a bag of IV fluids used as a treatment for vitamin and electrolyte deficiencies in patients with chronic alcohol use. The bag often contains thiamine, folic acid, magnesium and sulfate. A representative for Williams did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. Teresa Kroeger/Getty Despite this, nothing appeared to be amiss when Williams hosted her talk show Wednesday and Thursday. On March 19, she revealed on-air that she’d been living in a sober house. “You know I’ve had a struggle with cocaine in the past,” she said on The Wendy Williams Show. “I never went to a place to get treatment … there are people in your family, it might be you … I want you to know more of the story.” She added that her husband Kevin Hunter was the only person who knew she was seeking treatment. “Only Kevin knows about this. Not my parents, nobody. Nobody knew because I look so glamorous out here,” she said. “I am driven by my 24-hour sober coach back to a home that I live in the tri-state with a bunch of smelly boys who have become my family.” At the facility, it’s “doors locked by 10 p.m. lights out by 10 p.m., so I go to my room and stare at the ceiling and fall asleep to come here and see you,” she continued. “So that is my truth.” Jennifer Graylock/WireImage Wendy Williams Spotted Without Her Wedding Ring Just Weeks After Denying Marriage Issues Though Williams says Hunter has been by her side, she was photographed out without her wedding ring this week. On Wednesday, Williams and Hunter were seen together in New York City, where she was wearing her ring, according to a photo obtained by E! News. She also wore her wedding ring on Friday’s episode. Earlier this month, Williams addressed rumors that have been swirling about her marriage, proudly saying at the time that she was still wearing her diamond sparkler. I’m still wearing my ring,” she said on her March 4 show. “Believe me you, when you’ve been with somebody for 28 years, married for 25 years … we know each other. He’s my best friend, he’s my lover. … I know what you’ve been seeing .. but hunty, let me show you who I fell in love with and who he fell in love with.” A decades-old photo of the couple popped onto the screen, and the crowd went wild. “I’m still very much in love with my husband and anyone who’s been married … you know.” “Marriages have ebbs and flows, marriage isn’t easy. And don’t ask me about mine until you see this gone,” she added, gesturing to her wedding ring. “And it ain’t going anywhere, not in this lifetime.” Kevin Hunter and Wendy Williams. The pair later welcomed their son, Kevin Jr., in 2000. It has long been rumored that Hunter has had a decade-long affair with a massage therapist, though Williams brushed off those rumors in September 2017. “You can believe what you want,” she said on her show while holding up her wedding ring. “I stand by my guy.” If you or someone you know is in need of help, please contact the SAMHSA substance abuse helpline at 1-800-662-HELP.
