When it comes to fighting pediatric cancer, Hoda Kotb, Cyndi Lauper and Sara Bareilles make a good team.

As a part of Today‘s Shine a Light Series on the NBC morning show, co-host Hoda Kotb joined forces with the two singers to make a music video called Truly Brave, which features young cancer patients from The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, to help raise money for the cause.

A cancer survivor herself, Kotb was diagnosed with breast cancer seven years ago.

“It was the scariest period of my life,” she has said. I was very depressed, and really in the weeds, but there was something about music. You put on a song and your mood changes instantly.”

After the experience, Kotb says she was inspired to help others.

“I now know what it feels like to struggle with cancer,” she said. “But what I can’t fathom, is what it’s like for a little kid to face such a grown-up disease. When I visit pediatric hospitals all I want to do is make it better. If music helped me, I thought maybe I could give these kids the gift of that perfect song. A song just for them”
