Well, that was worth the wait.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis took the stage together at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night after a nearly three-year hiatus.

The duo performed their latest single, “Downtown,” just three days after they released the video for the song.

The pair’s high-energy performance took place outside the Orpheum Theater, just after Nicki Minaj kicked off the show inside.

Macklemore, 32, looked confident and relaxed as he rapped and danced his way onstage with an entourage as scores of fans waved their arms and cheered.

Later, he showed off some serious choreography as two dancers grabbed his arms and legs and dragged him through the catwalk as dancers leaped over him.

The performance caps off a life-changing few months for Macklemore, 32, who welcomed daughter Sloane in May, and married fiancée Tricia Davis a month later.

The rapper has been open about his shifting priorities now that he’s a father.

“I’ve been trying to grow up this year,” he recently told Complex magazine while also admitting to suffering a drug relapse in 2014 triggered by the pressure of fame. “Since I heard that Tricia was pregnant, I was like, ‘I need to grow up right now.’ ”

But that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten about the thrill of performing – as evidenced by his pre-show tweet.
