Other Vanguard recipients include Beyoncé and the Red Hot Chili Peppers
Kanye West will be honored at the 2015 MTV VMAs with the show’s highest honor, the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
“Throughout his career, West has blended musical and visual artistry to powerful effect,” the network wrote in a statement. “From his trilogy of videos for ‘Jesus Walks,’ to the mind-bending animation of ‘Heartless,’ to the arresting imagery of ‘Bound 2,’ he’s pushed boundaries and delivered something new with every successive video.” The Video Vanguard Award has in the past been awarded to Beyoncé, Britney Spears and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The 2015 VMAs air Sunday at 9 p.m. and will be hosted by Miley Cyrus. The Weeknd will be performing. And be sure to keep an eye out for the new, Jeremy Scott-redesigned Moonman the show is handing out.
