As the world wondered what kind of controversy Miley Cyrus might stir up as host of the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, Miley’s dad and former Hannah Montana costar Billy Ray Cyrus made it clear he’s nothing but proud of his daughter.

“Gonna be the first daddy to ever live tweet while his little girl hosts the @MTV #VMAs” he tweeted on Friday.

On Sunday, he made good on that promise. In the hours before the show he tweeted several images of him and Miley through the years, including one sweet shot of him holding a pint-sized Miley while he sported his famous mullet.

Later, he retweeted MTV’s shot of Miley giving her family a big hug on the red carpet, followed by another vintage shot of the twosome as the show began.

Cyrus also acknowledged her family toward the beginning of the show, as the camera panned to Billy Ray and mom Tish.

“I am totally stoked to have my entire family here tonight,” she said, then added. “You guys, if it’s anything like Christmas, just be prepared for a fistfight down in the audience.”
