Miley Cyrus Teases Her New Music: 'It's Not About Twerking'

The singer dished at the VMAS on her next album and what to expect

Miley Cyrus can always be counted on to deliver a surprise, and her next album won’t be any exception.

“It’s a little psychedelic, but still in that pop world,” the controversial entertainer, 21, said on the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet on Sunday about her upcoming effort, which she has been working on with The Flaming Lips.

But fans may have to wait a very long time to hear it.

“This record might take me five years,” she added. “I’ll just work on it until I’m done.”

Besides the different sound, she’ll also be debuting some new moves.

“I’ve retwired,” Cyrus offered when asked about putting an end to her twerking days.

“It’s not about twerking,” she said. “It’s about music.”

Though she stole headlines with her performance on last year’s show, this year she will be offstage and in the audience as a nominee for Video of the Year for the skin-and-soul-baring “Wrecking Ball.” It currently has nearly 700 million views on YouTube since debuting last September.
