Should it surprise you that Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem can turn out a solid version of “Jungle Boogie”?

More recently, the Muppets have starred in mash-ups that have given us Miss Piggy singing Rihanna, Rolf singing Biz Markie and Gonzo doing "The Humpty Dance."

This week, however, the characters’ official YouTube channel took the marriage of Muppets and music to a whole new level: with a full-on cover of Kool & the Gang’s 1978 funk hit.

The clip has Animal front and center on drums, of course, as well as the rest of the members of The Muppet Show‘s house band jamming away. Even the group’s resident stick-in-the-mud, Sam the Eagle, gets into it – but no, he still doesn’t crack a smile.

The Muppets Stars Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy End Their 40-Year Relationship

It’s almost enough to make you forget that the world is still reeling from the news that Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have gone their separate ways. (Clearly, this has been the most shocking celebrity breakup of the summer.)

Notably, neither appears in the clip, though Piggy did shed some light on the breakup at a Tuesday press conference about the Muppets’ upcoming ABC series.

“One of us is certainly professional,” said Piggy of having to work with her ex. “You can guess who that is, I’m sure. Dating moi is like flying close to the sun. It was inevitable that Kermit would drop down to the ground while I stayed in the heavens.”

Can we put in a vote for Kermit and Piggy covering “Don’t You Want Me Baby?”
