VIDEO: Duggars Worry About Exposing Fragile Newborn to Germs
A common cold was the source of some big drama for Jim Bob Duggar, who was forced to avoid visiting his micro preemie baby girl Josie in the hospital. During a new episode of 19 Kids and Counting, the 44-year-old dad has to skip a visit with his 2 lb. 5 oz. daughter because of his illness, forcing wife Michelle to go to the hosptial alone.
“The hard part is knowing that we can’t take anything to Josie,” Michelle, 43, says during an episode of the TLC show scheduled to air Tuesday. “When Jim Bob was coughing and sputtering, he just had to stay away until he got well … I miss Jim Bob not being there. I like for him to hear the information from the doctors at the same time I’m hearing it.”
But with her tiny 54-day-old daughter’s fragile condition — she is being fed through a tube in her stomach — and a houseful of 18 other children, making sacrifices is unavoidable, especially since germs can spread quickly in her family. “Sickness will begin with the little ones, especially the ones 5 and under,” says Michelle. “I think they just tend to share slobber back and forth.” — Catherine Donaldson-Evans
