John Candy, Rick Moranis, Catherine O’Hara, Dave Thomas, Eugene Levy – they’re all here. And they’re playing softball.

Cult sketch comedy series Second City Television brought together some truly funny people. And while we can still enjoy them working together in their sketches and the many, many movies they subsequently starred in, a recently uncovered video offers a glimpse at these people just being themselves – and being friends – back in 1982.

The video, posted last week by the SCTV Youtube archive , shows the cast of the show playing softball against the crew in Edmonton City Park 33 years ago. And it only came to light, according to the video, after being found by John Candy’s widow, Rose.

For people who enjoyed SCTV or just watched a lot of comedy films in the ’80s and ’90s, this is a treat. It’s not just eight minutes of performers you love – it’s eight minutes of them hanging out behind the scenes, being themselves. It’s a perspective we fans rarely get.
