Valerie Harper’s longtime friend and costar Sally Struthers says the actress is on the mend.
Just before her performance in Nice Work If You Can Get It, Harper, 75, was taken to the hospital Wednesday after she reported not feeling well.
“Valerie is feeling better today,” Struthers said in a statement Thursday. “We have been friends for 43 years and shared an Emmy in 1972, and this is our first time working together. It’s an amazing blessing.”
While Harper’s understudy is currently filling in for her at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine, the theater released a statement on Friday with an update on her condition.
“She is currently enjoying her family s company while resting at an undisclosed location. Valerie has been loving her time in Ogunquit and is looking forward to getting back on stage at the Ogunquit Playhouse.”
“Sometimes I feel icky, but I’m feeling very good in New York,” she told PEOPLE in May. “Maybe because I’m working or I’m talking about cancer in a positive way – I think that might have something to do with it.”
Although Harper’s rare form of brain cancer isn’t progressing, the actress is still taking things day by day.
” We don’t know what’s around the corner,” she said. “I think you just take each day and get the best out of it and do what you can and have fun.”
