Casey Abrams Undergoes Blood Transfusions
The Top-12 contestant missed Thursday's elimination show because he was in the hospital
At a time when he would surely like to be focused on singing, American Idol contestant Casey Abrams is dealing with a health scare.
The singer, who was absent from Thursday’s elimination show, has ulcerative colitis, a source tells PEOPLE.
The condition, which causes abdominal pain and cramping, was treated at a hospital in Los Angeles, where Abrams, 20, received two blood transfusions Thursday night.
“Hey guys, thanks for the well wishes, I got some nice fresh blood in me and feeling better,” Abrams Tweeted Thursday. “People at Idol & Cedars are treatin me real good.”
It was the second time Abrams visited the hospital while competing on season 10 of Idol.
One thing Abrams didn’t have to worry about was being eliminated in absentia: the singer, a favorite of the judges, was deemed safe during Thursday’s results show.
When reached, American Idol reps had no comment.
