Bobbi Kristina Brown is grieving the loss of her mother Whitney Houston – but the young aspiring actress didn’t walk out on Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse and, in fact, did “great” work, according to the director.

On Wednesday a report surfaced that Bobbi Kristina quit the TBS comedy and walked out of the show because she is dealing with the death of her mom.

But Perry posted an adamant defense of Houston’s daughter on his website saying, “Yes she was grieving, but grief aside, she managed to finish her obligation and did a great job at the same time.”

A source who knows Bobbi Kristina says, “She did a specific amount [on the show] and no she did not walk off. She wanted to do more but was not emotionally capable at the time.”

Perry also pleaded for privacy for Bobbi Kristina, writing. “PLEASE LEAVE THIS BABY ALONE!!! AND SHE IS A BABY.”

Perry, who also endured the loss of his own mother, said he cast Houston’s daughter, in part, to help her through the grieving process. Bobbi Kristina has said she plans to pursue a career in performing like her famous parents, Houston and singer Bobby Brown.

Another source tells PEOPLE that Bobbi Kristina “is doing well, but taking it one day at a time. She is not depressed.”

Bobbi Kristina is going ahead with plans to work on a reality show that will also star Houston’s sister-in-law Pat, brother Gary, mom Cissy and Pat’s daughter Rayah.
