Bradley Whitford Calls Relationship with 'Transparent' Costar Amy Landecker 'Spectacular'

When Bradley Whitford signed on to star on the hit Amazon series Transparent, he never anticipated the immense success of the show – nor did he expect to fall in love. Yet, somehow, he found them both.

“Things with Amy are spectacular,” Whitford told PEOPLE at the premiere of the second season of Transparent in Los Angeles on Monday night. “Things are wonderful.”

Whitford, 56, is referring to costar Amy Landecker, 46, whom he has been dating since earlier this year. The actors took their relationship public when they attended the Creative Arts Emmys together back in September.

“I met her last year, but we didn’t start dating for a little while. I work slowly,” said Whitford, who has three children with ex-wife Jane Kaczmarek, laughing. “We never really acted together in this. So, that keeps it simple.”

Though Landecker couldn’t be at his side at the premiere (“She’s shooting the new Marvel movie in London,” Whitford said), he knew she was there in spirit. “We talk about work a lot,” he said.

As for maintaining their award-winning show’s quality, “You just keep telling the story and try to maintain the headspace you had when you made the first season and you had no idea how it would be received and you didn’t think you knew what you were doing,” Whitford said. “That’s the key.”

When reporters told Whitford before he went into the screening that they loved Landecker, he simply replied, “I do, too.”
