'Top Model' : Homeless Chic Sends Two Girls Home

If you’re going to compete in the world of Top Model, you better walk the walk and talk the talk. Apparently 20-year-old Kim couldn’t do either. After modeling $500 shorts and sporting a $700 bag for this week’s challenge, Kim realized she doesn’t want to support an industry that, as she believes, encourages to shell out hundreds (or thousands) for fashion.

At panel, Kim admitted that modeling may not be her true calling and volunteered to leave the competition. You better believe Tyra had something to say about it. Quick to guilt-trip Kim about the six girls from the semi-finals who would’ve killed for her spot, Tyra dismissed Kim with the attitude of “out of sight, out of mind.” Once she was gone, the judges were still set to eliminate another girl. After all, they had an extra contestant this cycle by giving Dominique the 14th spot.

But let’s rewind to the first official day of the competition: The ladies began at a Times Square runway show for designers Badgley Mischka. It’s safe to say that the girls looked about as chic as deer in the headlights, and it didn’t get any easier when Cycle 10’s newest judge, Paulina Porizkova, met with the contestants to give them her brutally honest first impressions. A sampling: Paulina told Dominique that she looks like a transvestite Robin Wright Penn. Ouch.

But the girls fared better at this week’s photo shoot, which had them posing as a homeless person. It’s obvious that most of the girls need practice, but the judges saw Claire, Aimee and, ironically, Kim as standouts.

In the end, it was the forgettable Brooklynite Atalya who was sent packing, but even with her goodbye tears, it was Kim who got the upper hand with her dramatic exit. If there was this much drama on the first elimination episode, next week’s makeover show is guaranteed to kick it up a notch. –Archana Ram
