Todd Chrisley on Gay Rumors: 'There's No Coming Out'
The star of USA's Chrisley Knows Best says, "There's no coming out"
Todd Chrisley’s USA reality show isn’t even out yet – and he’s already addressing rumors he’s gay.
The star of Chrisley Knows Best, which debuts March 11, says he’s heard the rumblings about his sexuality for years. And such talk has only intensified as the premiere date approaches.
“There’s no coming out,” says the Atlanta millionaire, who’s been married to wife Julie for 18 years and has five children. “What you see is what you get. I am what I am. Other people’s opinions of me are just not my business.”
Chrisley says he’s proudly flamboyant, unabashedly enthusiastic about fashion, and yes, absolutely went to see Elton John for his 40th birthday.
“So what?” he says, noting that a man Tweeted a message to him not long ago asking, “When are you going to come out of the closet?”
“I said, ‘I don’t live in a closet, but if you’d like me to escort you out of yours I’m happy to do so.’ All of a sudden the Tweet went away and he took it down because I flipped the script on him.”
Later, Chrisley says his eldest daughter, Lindsay, told him to be ready to become a gay pop icon.
“I said, ‘Lindsay, I’d rather be a gay pop icon than I would a redneck … I’m 45. I really don’t care what your opinion of me is. The fact that you are thinking about I’m doing in my bedroom at 45 is exciting to me.”
