Worlds Collide When a Regular American Family Takes Over Britain's Isle of Man in New TLC Show Suddenly Royal
David Drew Howe and his family navigate etiquette lessons and skeptical citizens in the new show, premiering Sept. 9
In a new TLC series, one family is getting the Mia Thermopolis treatment. (All together now: Shut up!)
After poking into his family’s ancestry online, blue-collar everyman David Drew Howe and his family discovered that they belong to one of the most elite groups in the world: royalty.
In this exclusive supertease for the upcoming series Suddenly Royal, the auto repair specialist turned king, his wife Pam and their 12-year-old daughter Grace travel to their kingdom, the British Isle of Man, where they have a lot of catching up to do – for starters, etiquette lessons and figuring out exactly what it means to “act royal.” No surprise: Hilarity ensues.
“It was Hicksville come to town,” etiquette expert Lady Campbell says in the clip about meeting the new royals.
As part of the series, the Howes will have to convince skeptical locals that they are indeed a royal family – which turns out to be no cup of high tea.
“The people were mean to me,” David says in the clip. “Even though officially I’m the king, that doesn’t really mean anything unless we can win the people of the Isle of Man.”
And just when it seems like they are being accepted and settling in, not everyone in the family is on board with relocating 3,000 miles away from home.
Suddenly Royal premieres Sept. 9 at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
