He’s not replacing Conan O’Brien as the host of Late Night till next year, but Jimmy Fallon is already getting a pat on the back from his former Saturday Night Live costar Tina Fey, who says it’s “great news.”

Fey told PEOPLE she thought Fallon was “a perfect choice, a great choice” for the gig last night at the NBC Universal Experience in New York City, where the network unveiled its new fall schedule.

“Jimmy is incredibly charismatic and easy on camera,” The 30 Rock star said. “He loves talking to and he loves working hard. It’s a very hard job. It’s a real grind. It’s like working at the post office doing that job because you’re never done.”

As for her own hectic schedule, the Emmy-winning actress is looking forward to pulling back a bit this summer.

Fresh off the success of Baby Mama, her new comedy co-starring SNL‘s Amy Poehler, Fey says: “There are no new offers on the table. Actually, I’m really looking forward to resting up and being wholly present for 30 Rock … this summer because last summer I was doing the movie at the same time and it was little bit bananas.” –Diane Clehane
