"Kim was worried for me and I think Kanye was just, like, scared," the comedian tells PEOPLE
The comedian, 33, said that her idea to fake a fall in front of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West at the TIME 100 Gala in New York City on Tuesday night was a game-time decision – and assured the couple laughed it off.
“I saw them, and I asked my publicist, ‘Can I dive in front of them and act like I fell?’ And she said, ‘I can’t stop you,’ ” Schumer tells PEOPLE.
“I just dove right down,” she says of making herself red-carpet road kill in front of the duo, who were both honored at the gala.
But Schumer got a chance to catch up with the couple after the silly stunt. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, 34, and the rapper, 37, were able to shrug it off, she says.
“I talked to them. They were like, ‘What?’ Kim was worried for me, and I think Kanye was just, like, scared that I was doing something,” the Inside Amy Schumer star says, who also made the list of Time‘s 100 Most Influential People this year.
“They were really sweet. Kim was really funny,” Schumer adds. “She goes, ‘Oh my god, I was like, does this girl need help?’ She was like, ‘That was really funny.'”
And not pranking the power couple would have been a major missed opportunity, according to the funnygirl.
“They were right there! The epicenter of American. Gotta do it,” Schumer says. “It was the best.”
