Two weeks after Thomas Gibson was let go from his starring role on Criminal Minds, the former CBS leading man might have his sights on a new TV horizon.

Gibson, who was fired after being suspended for an alleged physical altercation with a writer on set, recently mentioned the possibility of a return to comedy.

“People always mention that they’d love to see me in a comedy again,” Gibson told The Hollywood Reporter. “Maybe it’s time – laughter being the best medicine.”

Prior to his 12-year span on the drama series, the 54-year-old actor appeared on the ABC comedy sitcom Dharma & Greg from 1997 to 2002.

In 2014, he quipped to PEOPLE of what Dharma and Greg would be doing to celebrate their 17th anniversary, “Calling their lawyers. It’s sad, but they were fighting the last time we saw them” and added that “A comedy I would love to guess star on would be Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In.”
