Jordan Rodgers is opening up about why he decided to make his family drama public.

During his stint on The Bachelorette, rumors swirled that Rodgers’ older brother, NFL star Aaron Rodgers, 32, was estranged from the family. When the front-runner had his hometown visit with JoJo Fletcher, he was able to open up about his non-existent relationship with the Green Bay Packers quarterback – it just happened to be on national television.

“You know, I didn’t even think about it going into the show,” Rodgers tells PEOPLE Now about revealing his family’s drama on screen. “I probably should’ve. I just wasn’t familiar with the show, but my goal was to be honest with her every step of the way.”

He went on to admit that he thought it was necessary in order for Fletcher, 25, to get to know him better.

“You don’t get any time off camera,” Rodgers adds. “So, we’re talking about really trying to get to an engagement – you got to share everything. It had to be talked about.”

Aaron previously told a local news outlet in Wisconsin, where he plays for the Green Bay Packers: “I haven’t seen the show, to be honest with you, so it hasn’t really affected me a whole lot.”

Switching gears, Rodgers admits that the pair are eager to publicly share their engagements with family and friends.

“We’re excited now,” he says. “There’s just so many people we haven’t been able to involve in this journey with us. We told close family and a few best friends. But we have endless people. We want to get our friends together, our family together, so there’s a lot of people who [we] want to enjoy this with.”

As for being excited to have his family involved in the wedding plans, Rodgers says he and Fletcher are “already there.”

“His mom is texting me .. I think she went into this venue the other day for something and she grabbed a pamphlet for wedding planning,” adds Fletcher. “So, she’s already ready.”
