The Bachelorette‘s JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers were finally able to go public with their engagement Monday night, but this season’s villain Chad Johnson says he doesn’t see their relationship lasting much longer.

“I think maybe they can morph it into something that turns into something, it’s possible, but I don’t think where they were at is anything real,” Johnson, 28, tells PEOPLE.

“Maybe Jordan and JoJo can figure out a way over the course of time to make whatever relationship they’re in turn into something, but I don’t think at this point, where they’re at now, it’s actually something,” he continues.

Johnson believes Fletcher’s choice was motivated by fame and fortune rather than a genuine connection.

“Looking at this from a business perspective, obviously Jordan Rodgers, having Aaron Rodgers as his brother, he has the most marketability when it comes to product and sports endorsements and all that,” he says. “If I were looking to make money in this and I was her, I would have made the same decision.”

Johnson also feels that Rodgers was simply “playing a role” on the show.

“He played his role very well,” he says. “He did a good job. It looked really good on camera. When I watched that finale I was like, ‘It looks good! Good job guys.’ When you’re there and when you see it in person, that’s when you’re like, ‘C’mon man.’ ”

Johnson will appear on this season of Bachelor in Paradise, which premieres Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
