The new Bachelorette speaks out!

JoJo Fletcher, who is currently filming the new season of The Bachelorette, appeared on Good Morning America Friday to discuss where everything stands as she embarks on her second reality television journey to find love.

As for her painful breakup with The Bachelor‘s Ben Higgins, which aired on the season finale March 14, Fletcher, 25, admitted she “went into that morning feeling like I was going to get engaged.”

“I had mentally prepared myself for that, but it didn’t work out,” the Texas native said.

Fletcher and Higgins, 28, faced each other for the first time since their split during a tense sit-down on After the Final Rose – but now, Fletcher says the two don’t speak, though she has remained friends with his final pick and fiancée, Lauren Bushnell.

“Ben and I don’t communicate,” she said. “I kind of have my relationship with Lauren which is my first priority.”

Now, Fletcher is the one handing out the roses, and she said she’s already “connecting with these guys.”

“I am having fun with them! I’m actually feeling feelings, which I didn’t expect so early on,” she said.

Fletcher said she is looking for a man “that came make me feel safe and protected and somebody that I can trust,” and ultimately, hopes for a proposal at the end of it all.

“I want to be engaged,” she said. “I want marriage. I want a family. So, I feel like this could happen right now!”

Fletcher’s season of The Bachelorette premieres May 23 on ABC.
