Although breaking up on TV was tough for JoJo Fletcher, the new Bachelorette admits there were some advantages to how her split from Bachelor Ben Higgins played out.

“The heartbreak didn’t set in until a couple days later. That’s when I got to the peak of my sadness,” Fletcher tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “But the breakup was cold turkey, and that helps. You don’t have that temptation of wanting to text your ex.”

Fletcher has bounced back after the breakup, and viewers saw her meet 26 eligible men on Monday’s premiere of The Bachelorette.

“Ben was one of the greatest loves of my life, but I’ve moved on in a very positive way,” Fletcher says.

The Dallas-based real estate developer, 25, says she doesn’t harbor any resentment over the breakup, which saw Higgins, 28, choose Lauren Bushnell as his bride-to-be.

“I don’t think I’ll ever forget the moment we broke up,” Fletcher says. “But I learned from the experience. And seeing Ben’s relationship with Lauren helped me accept what it is and be happy with the outcome.”
