Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici celebrated their first wedding anniversary last month and continue to keep the romance alive with fun date nights.

“But we can’t just go out to eat,” Lowe, 31, told Hudson and Emily. “She needs it to be really intentional and have a lot of thought behind it.” He adds, “She’s all about themes.”

For example: “If she wanted to go have Chinese food, she might want to go see Chinese lanterns in the park afterwards,” says Lowe, 31.

Lowe, who met Giudici, 28, on season 17 of The Bachelor, adds that he often writes out a cute card to give to his wife during their nights out.

“I learned pretty quickly, as a dude, sometimes I miss a lot of things,” Lowe says. “I think, ‘Eh, we just went to dinner – that was date night.’ But that is not date night.”

And now that he’s been married for one year, the former Bachelor has learned some valuable lessons.

“It’s important for newlyweds to know that it’s not easy. You’re going to run into hurdles, especially when you come from two different backgrounds,” Lowe says. “But you’re going to work your way though it and find what works best for your marriage.”
