He found his true love in fiancée Whitney Bischoff, and now The Bachelor‘s Chris Soules has another life goal in mind after personally announcing on Tuesday’s Good Morning America that he’s joining the cast of Dancing with the Stars.
“I think the assumption is farmers don’t dance and that I’m going to go out there and look like a complete idiot,” he tells PEOPLE. “I’m going to try to prove that farmers can dance!”
The Arlington, Iowa-based corn farmer, 33, has already begun rehearsals with his partner – another Witney (Carson) – in Los Angeles. “It’s a good thing [her name is Witney],” jokes Soules. “I am of a very small mind and a short memory so it just keeps it simple!”
As far as his two-stepping talents, Soules, who shared some memorably off-key vocals on The Bachelor, says, “I think Americans think I can dance about as good as I can sing!”
But at least one fan is sure to be front row center every week. Bischoff, 29, will live with Soules in L.A. (and commute to Chicago for work) during the length of his stay on Dancing. She’s confident in her future husband’s skills: “Hopefully we’ll be in L.A. for a while because Chris is going to take home that mirror-ball trophy. He’s got rhythm!”
Dancing with the Stars‘s new season premieres Monday, March 16, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
