Bachelor Ben Higgins and His New Fiancée Pass on Chris Harrison's Offer to Get Married Immediately on Live TV After the Finale

Harrison teased throughout Monday’s The Bachelor finale as well as the After the Final Rose special that Higgins, 26, might marry his new fiancée on live TV. Harrison even flew out Higgins’ hometown pastor Denny Wilson to Los Angeles just in case.

But Higgins and his new bride-to-be Lauren Bushnell, who noted “I am wearing white,” opted not to take Harrison up on his offer.
Afterwards she told PEOPLE exclusively: “It just felt a little rushed. We want to plan!”

“Denny, thank you for coming,” Higgins said. “This whole thing for us has been a little crazy. But I think we both owe it to each other to do a wedding with our friends and family and a big celebration to cap off this craziness.”
Both Higgins’ and Bushnell’s parents were in the audience – just in case they decided to get married, and the Bachelor was able to finally ask for his fiancée’s hand in marriage properly, as well as get her father’s permission

“The first time I did this, I had to do it on the phone, and this time I’m going to do it right,” he said.
After proposing a second time, Higgins reflected on his experience on the show.
“Honestly, what a ride. But it brought me here. This is my new family,” said Higgins, showing off his future in-laws.
In this week’s PEOPLE cover story, Higgins, 27, opens up about his decision to chose Bushnell, 26, over JoJo Fletcher after telling both women he loved them.
“I can’t apologize for being honest or expressing what I thought was best to express at the time,” said Higgins. “But I could never picture my life without Lauren.”
