Teresa Giudice and her sister-in-law Melissa Gorga have had their fair share of drama, but since she was released from prison, the pair has grown closer than ever.

“We’re past all the drama and we’re back to how we always were,” Teresa, 44, tells PEOPLE exclusively in this week’s issue. “Everything is amazing.”

But it hasn’t always been the case. Over the past few seasons of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, the relationship between Teresa and Melissa, 37, has been a tumultuous one, with no shortage of name-calling and screaming matches.

But after serving nearly a year in prison for fraud, Giudice and her sister-in-law have put aside their differences.

“Fame got in the way,” says Giudice. “I don’t know if everyone knows that but it’s really exactly what happened. “I always accepted Melissa when she came into the family with open arms, and that’s it. It’s just back to how it was.”

The Real Housewives of New Jersey returns July 10 at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.
