Teresa Giudice is officially enjoying her freedom after nearly a year in prison.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey star spent some time grocery shopping with a pal in New Jersey Tuesday, PEOPLE has confirmed. Though she remains under house arrest, she was also allowed to attend sister-in-law Melissa Gorga’s Christmas Eve party, thanks to permission from her probation officer.

“She asks permission to go places,” the source tells PEOPLE. “The probation officer then gives her the parameters of that. He will ask her which stores she is going to and then says, ‘You can go from this time to this time.’ She can go to work, go to the doctor or go see her lawyer – all with the officer’s permission.”

In the days since her Dec. 23 release, Giudice has been spending time with her family and catching up on lost time with her daughters. She’ll remain on house arrest until Feb. 5.

Her husband Joe Giudice begins his own 41-month prison sentence in March.

“Their plan is to just stay in and enjoy each other’s company,” a source previously told PEOPLE of the couple. “They don’t want to be bothered.”
