Tyler Baltierra Chooses Filming Teen Mom OG Over Relationship with Daughter Carly and Her Adoptive Parents
On Sunday's episode of Teen Mom OG, Tyler got upset about Brandon and Theresa's rules for filming
Back in 2009, 16 & Pregnant‘s Catelynn Lowell and Tyler made the heartbreaking choice to put their first child up for adoption. Although the adoption was open, problems arose throughout Carly’s life and it all revolves around MTV filming her biological parents’ lives.
On Sunday’s episode of Teen Mom OG, Teresa unexpectedly called Catelynn to let her know that they no longer want to be a topic of conversation during filming hours and asked if their relationship could remain off TV.
Although Catelynn obliged and told Teresa that she would never choose MTV over her family, Tyler, 24, was livid and picked the latter.
While working on the new house with his dad, Tyler addressed the drama and the new set of “rules” that Carly’s parents are giving Catelynn and him.
“This is what I do, I share my life story,” he told his dad. “If [they] think I’m not going to talk about it and express how I feel about Carly and this relationship… well, sorry. If that costs me the ultimate cost, well…”
Tyler continued to say that he knew what the “ultimate consequence” would be, (not having a relationship with Carly) but he’s fine with that.
“If that happens, I’m not going to have to deal with the hurt and pain,” he said, “they’re going to have to look at their daughter… and explain to her why she’s hurting. I will never silence what I have to say or my opinion.”
When Catelynn, 24, asked him why he would rather ruin their relationship with Carly and her adoptive parents, Tyler basically said filming is his life now, whether Brandon or Teresa like it or not, and he won’t be the one hurting Carly, it would be them.
“It just doesn’t make any sense to me to be told what to say and what not to say,” he said. “I don’t want to live my life like that! I can’t! … If they say ‘We don’t want you talking about the adoption at all on TV,’ Oh, oh, then we’re going to have lots of issues. That’s all I’m saying.”
“Is what you’re saying that if they tell you that you can’t talk about the adoption on TV that you would still do it and risk the relationship with Carly?” Catelynn asked him.
“Yes,” Tyler responded. “I will not sacrifice my voice and what I think and what I can and cannot talk about on my daily life and my personal life – cameras or not cameras.”
Catelynn doesn’t agree with her husband and began to get upset at the thought of Tyler ruining it for the both of them.
“You can’t be selfish,” she told him. “I don’t know what to do, so I guess I’ll figure it out.
The episode ends with Catelynn holding back tears and walking out of the room.
Teen Mom OG airs Mondays (10 p.m. ET) on MTV.
