Amber Portwood Is Hospitalized After Suicide Attempt
The reality star attempted to take her own life, according to reports
Troubled reality star Amber Portwood may have tried to end her own life.
Portwood, 21 – whose explosive relationship with Gary Shirley, her ex-fiancé and the father of her young daughter, Leah, has been documented on MTV’s Teen Mom – was depressed and threatening to end her life before being taken to a hospital near her Indiana home on Tuesday, according to a police statement.
“Our understanding is that Amber has been admitted to a local hospital but we have not been able to confirm the accuracy of any reports being circulated and are waiting for further details,” MTV said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with her and we hope to hear more soon.”
The news was first reported by Radar online and a source revealed that when emergency workers arrived, “they removed the rope that Amber had loosely knotted around her neck.”
The Web site also reports that Portwood may have tried to overdose on pills.
She has previously spent time in jail on charges of battery for fighting with Shirley.
