The trailer for the new AOL series Connected has been released, and it gives some insight into the unconventional relationship between Susan Sarandon and her boyfriend Jonathan Bricklin.

The show tasks six New York City couples with using handheld cameras to film the day-to-day drama of their lives and relationships. The project is the first series for AOL and involves no professional film crews. Instead it relies solely on footage recorded by the participating couples.

Sarandon and Bricklin are one of those couples – and from the looks of the trailer, viewers will be getting first-hand insight into the “issues” Bricklin has said the couple are working on.

“I’ve always felt embarrassed for you that you’re dating me,” Bricklin tells the actress, who is 31 years his senior, in the trailer.

But when he adds, “You should be dating someone fabulous,” Sarandon replies, “I am.”

While the trailer goes on to show plenty of happy times between the couple, the New York Post reported earlier that the pair split while shooting the documentary.

“Susan and I have a lot of respect and great admiration for each other,” Bricklin told PEOPLE in response to the breakup rumors. “It’s impossible to concisely characterize our relationship, other than to say that it continues to evolve in new and unexpected ways.

“She supported my decision to be a part of AOL’s Connected, and making this series about my life has brought up real and somewhat unexplored issues, but it didn’t break us up.”
