Stephen Colbert Removed from DNC Stage During Hungry for Power Games Spoof
The Late Show host kicked off the Democratic National Convention by reprising his Hunger Games spoof
He’s back … with a badge!
On Monday’s episode of The Late Show, host Stephen Colbert shared yet another pretaped segment of his 2016 Hungry for Power Games skit – but this time it was at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
With his faux pet weasel Caligula in one hand and his DNC podium badge in the other, the late-night host crashed the political event in his striking blue Caesar Flickerman wig in hopes of taking the stage and standing being Hillary Clinton‘s podium.
After multiple attempts to get past security and jump up on the stage, Colbert, 52, enlisted the help of Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who brought her grandchildren – but not even she could get the host on stage.
“No, Mr. Colbert, you’re not going onstage,” one security guard told him.
Shocked, he replied by pointing at Pelosi and said, “I’m with her!”
Then after multiple attempts, Colbert was able to sprint past security and run up on stage for a split second while screaming, “Have a great week everybody. God bless America! God bless freedom of the press! I’m not one to gloat, but I won!”
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will broadcast live all week from the DNC at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS.
