For so many stars, hearing Don Pardo say their name meant they’d arrived.

“Every year the new cast couldn’t wait to hear their name said by him,” Lorne Michaels, the creator of Saturday Night Live, tells The New York Times in the wake of the legendary announcer’s passing Monday at age 96.

Tuesday morning, loving tributes to Pardo are beginning to pour in. And not surprisingly, many involve reminiscences of when Pardo, in his booming voice, said the star’s name – magical moments that, for many, became personal and professional milestones.

Christina Applegate and Tom Arnold, who each hosted SNL multiple times, both posted tributes on Twitter, as did Al Roker, who fondly recalled Pardo saying his name on his first day on air at New York’s WNBC in 1983.

Seth Meyers, Andy Cohen and “Weird Al” Yankovic are among the other stars who have honored Pardo on Twitter early today – and there are surely more to come. See their tribute notes below.
