Sophia Bush was limping (but still in heels!) at a One Tree Hill casting call in New York City Saturday.

“I was just snowboarding up in Whistler ski resort in Canada. I had a little run-in with my knee and Blackcomb Mountain,” Bush, 25, explained. “My bulbous blackened knee at least earned me some serious street cred with all the boarders in the lodge. They were like, ‘Little girl, it’s cool. It’s just what happens when you learn!'”

As for the heels? “No pain, no gain. That’s what they say on the mountain, and that’s true in fashion, too,” Bush joked.

Bush’s CW show, which airs Tuesdays (9 p.m. EST) , is one of the few scripted shows currently airing new episodes (including a recent appearance by Kevin Federline), but Bush hasn’t worked since the writers’ strike started in November. In the meantime, she’s determined to prove herself on the slopes.

“As soon as my knee heals, I think I’m going to go either to Mammoth or Utah,” she says. “That’s my goal for this winter — is to get good.”

Meanwhile, Federline was hoping to prove himself last week with his first appearance on One Tree Hill as an undiscovered rocker. Sadly, Bush didn’t have the pleasure of working with Britney Spears‘s ex.

“I didn’t ever work with Kevin, but everyone that worked with him said he was a gentleman, that he came to work pretty prepared, and was just respectful and quiet and showed up, did his job, and went home,” Bush says. “So, kudos to him.”
