The Catch‘s leading lady is set to find herself caught in a tangled web.

In an exclusive clip at Shonda Rhimes‘ newest #TGIT offering, which premieres next Thursday, fraud investigator Alice Vaughan (Mireille Enos) is on the brink of personal and professional disaster – and she has no idea.

In the scene, Alice signs papers to give her fiancé Christopher Hall (Peter Krause) $1.4 million for the apartment they’ll share once they’re married.

Though Christopher makes a gentlemanly offer to buy their new home himself, Alice insists, “I’m not coming into this marriage as a dependent – we are partners in this or we’re not doing it.”

But it’s another partner who enters Christopher’s office after Alice leaves that kick-starts Alice’s downfall.

It quickly becomes clear that Margot Bishop (Sonya Walger) is in cahoots with Christopher and that Alice’s brilliance in her work has created friction for Christopher and Margot.

“It’s not my fault she’s good at her job,” says Christopher. “That is why we targeted her in the first place.”

Replies Margot, “Yes, well she’s officially outlived her usefulness. You need to break it off with her. Today.”

Enos, 40, previously told PEOPLE that the series is “James Bond meets The Thomas Crown Affair meets Romeo and Juliet.”

And of her driven, dynamic character, Enos added, “Alice and I both love to work really hard. The big difference is that Alice loves to do all of that hard work in a pair of crazy-tall heels.”
