Sherri Shepherd on How Whoopi Goldberg Helped Her Through Her First Custody Battle
Sherri Shepherd says her 10=year-old son is suddenly interested in girls
Shepherd, 48, stopped by The Meredith Vieira Show to discuss her comeback on ABC’s daytime talk show, new wig line and son Jeffrey.
She left The View in 2014 but recently returned as a contributor – though she joked about her infrequent appearances, “it’s like almost when Whoopi is sick, they will call me.”
The actress also discussed how her pal supported her during her 2010 split from Jeff Tarpley and subsequent custody battle over Jeffrey, now 10.
“When I started The View, I was going through a big divorce with husband number one … and literally all of my money was going to attorneys bills,” she said. “I didn’t have any money.
“Whoopi said, ‘Child, we’ve got to get you some clothes.’ ”
Shepherd said Goldberg took her shopping for a whole new “winter wardrobe” and surprised her by footing the bill – and asking simply that she “pay it forward” in return.
The Ride Along 2 star also talked about how her son is growing up and now utterly devoted to his 9-year-old crush – even sneaking mistletoe into a class party to earn a smooch.
“I love that boy so much. I’m a single mom. He likes this little girl named Jennifer,” she gushed. “I can’t kiss him now, he says, ‘These lips are reserved for Jennifer.’ And I’m like, ‘Does Jennifer make your oatmeal? Does Jennifer get your pajamas?’ ”

“And remember, if you win, we’re all out of work soon,” she joked. “Just kidding!”
