When Getting On star Niecy Nash lost to Allison Janneyfor outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series at the Emmys on Sunday, something happened that truly made her night one to remember.

“The best moment of the night was when they called my category and I did not win, and my husband looked at me and he said ‘You do know that you will always be my leading lady’,” Nash, 45, told PEOPLE at the premiere of her new show Scream Queens in Los Angeles on Monday. “And I was like ‘This night just got better! All right!’ I felt amazing.”

Nash, who wed her husband, electrical engineer Jay Tucker, in 2011, added that his comment after her loss only reminded her why he’s the man of her dreams.

“I married somebody I really like,” Nash said. “And even if he wasn’t my husband, he’d be my friend. I think that’s why it works.”

Although Nash is incredibly busy these days starring in Scream Queens alongside Emma Roberts and Jamie Lee Curtis (whom Nash refers to as her new BFF) and gearing up to shoot the final season of Getting On, she always finds time to be with her man.

“My favorite thing to do with my husband is to lay in the bed and watch a TV show we like,” said Nash, adding with a smile, “while he rubs my feet.”

Scream Queens airs Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
