Wedding bells are ringing – or, they were – for Scandal star Darby Stanchfield.

The 44-year-old, who plays Abby Whelan on the popular ABC drama, is a married woman, she confirms to PEOPLE, saying, “I’m very happy.”

Stanchfield, who hails from Alaska, is incredibly private about her personal life and rarely shares details from beyond the set.

Before joining the cast of Scandal, the red-headed beauty appeared on Mad Men and NCIS, among others others. She told Shape in 2013 that she found happiness in life by remembering to be “grateful.”

“When I’m grateful for all the blessings, it puts away all the stress about things not in my control,” Stanchfield said then. “Things like long hours, aging, pollution, scandals … it helps me create perspective by just focusing on being grateful. Take that moment twice a day with yourself.”

Stanchfield’s Scandal character has had her own ups and downs when it comes to romance. Most recently, Abby was in a relationship with campaign consultant Leo Bergen, played by Shondaland favorite Paul Adelstein.
