Scandal Finale Cast Reactions: 'We Were All So Taken Aback'
"It was right there in front of us and we didn't know!" Scott Foley tells PEOPLE of the finale's bombshell
Known for its bombshells and cliffhangers, Scandal‘s season 2 finale was far from an exception.
The edge-of-your-seat political drama had even its cast in shock – especially at the very end.
“The last word [dropped my] jaw,” Scott Foley, who plays Jake Ballard, told PEOPLE at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood shortly before the big episode aired.
“What? No. Oh, my god! There are so many questions that are answered and then these new questions pop up and we were all so taken aback. It was right there in front of us and we didn’t know! It was right there.”
Katie Lowes, who plays Quinn Perkins, had a chance to view the finale with most of the cast a few days earlier in New York City.
“My reactions to tonight’s finale were all across the board,” Lowes, who is “100 percent satisfied” with Quinn’s storyline, said. “There are totally moments where I cried and totally moments where I screamed in horror and there were totally moments where my jaw hit the ground. Everyone gets their big moment to shine and shock you. There’s not one little shocking thing, there’s five. And then there’s the cliffhanger at the end.”
But when it comes to the fans, Lowes expects they are now “devastated,” explaining, “It makes your heart pump, it gets your adrenaline going. [But] then it’s over and you’re left with all of the air taken out of you. You have more questions than you started with and then you have to wait until September to see what the hell is going on.”
As for the show’s star, Kerry Washington, she echoes Lowes’ sentiments: “[Fans] will be as hungry as we are for more. We definitely are hungry for more.”
Although Washington has had her own visions for her character, Olivia Pope, she’s confident knowing that, “Every time I’ve had an idea of something I thought I’d want to have happen, the writers have come up with something one hundred times better than what I imagined. I just trust them.”
Adds Washington, “I feel lucky that I get to be on this show, truly. When I saw the season finale, I thought about how lucky I am to be a part of this with these people.”
