Scandal returns from its winter break on Jan. 18

Did O/QPA just lose an original Gladiator in that shocking Scandal winter finale?

Fans and viewers were completely caught off guard by Thursday’s episode of the ABC drama when Olivia Pope and her father Eli’s episodes-long quarrel finally came to a conclusion when they got into a heated argument with threats to risk the lives of Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes) and her unborn baby after he kidnapped them to get back at his Command daughter.

Olivia calls B613 to kill her own father while he listens to the request. And when he insists again that he’ll kill Quinn, Olivia says that there’s no soft center for him to get to anymore, so there’s nothing he can do. If Quinn has to die for the republic, then she dies.

In the end, Rowan goes off into a room and fires two bullets followed by a woman’s screams. We see Olivia standing, shaken and stunned and lonely, with her choice before Rowan returns, asking, “Do you want to see the body?”

While Gladiators were unable to see Lowes’ character on-screen to confirm if she really died, the actress, whose real-life pregnancy was worked into the final season, bid adieu on Twitter.

“Thank you to the @ScandalWriters @shondarhimes for this time with my baby. And for Quinn. #Scandal,” Lowes wrote in her series of goodbye tweets. “Can’t even tell you how much I miss my #Scandal Fam,” she wrote in a follow-up.

“..and most of all. You #gladiators. Thank you. Love you. Thank you,” Lowes concluded.

Creator Shonda Rhimes and the cast also said their farewells in tweets following the show.

“It’s the final season you guys, you know we had to go all out. We are happy that @KatieQLowes can have this time with her baby. #scandalfinalseason,” Rhimes tweeted.

“MISS YOU @KatieQLowes,” Darby Stanchfield also wrote.

Gladiators expressed their absolute shock and disbelief on Twitter, with many mourning the death of Quinn.

In October, Lowes announced the birth of her first child, son Albee, on social media following the final season premiere of Scandal. The star announced her pregnancy with husband Adam Shapiro in May, joking to Jimmy Kimmel that the then-parents-to-be, who wed in 2012.
