It’s all fun and games until a Saved by the Bell star takes a pie to the face.

Mario Lopez appeared on Friday’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show and got a sweet surprise when his former on-screen high school sweetheart Elizabeth Berkley showed up.

After welcoming Lopez’s former castmate, DeGeneres pitted the pair against one another in a fun game of Pie Face. She sent the first trivia question over to Berkley asking for the amount of caffeine in a single cup of coffee. The actress, 43, answered incorrectly but came out unscathed.

When the host asked the 42-year-old to name all five of the Great Lakes in the United States, he came up short. Sadly, the spinner landed on four clicks, and Lopez got a face full of whipped cream.

Earlier in the episode, DeGeneres asked Lopez about “rumors” that he might be in the running for the new co-hosting gig at Live! alongside Kelly Ripa, whose current co-host, Michael Strahan, will be leaving on May 13.

“That’s very flattering,” he told DeGeneres, 58. “I know some people were saying that. Again, very flattering. I love Kelly. I’ve guest-hosted with her a few times. She’s awesome. … I’m looking forward to going back and guest-hosting.”

Lopez also added that he needed to run these potential plans by his wife Courtney Mazza first: “She’s the real boss of the house so we’ll see what she has to say about that.”

The Ellen DeGeneres Show airs weekdays (check local listings).
