Sarah Silverman and Michael Sheen have been dating for over a year, but the actress insists marriage isn’t in the cards anytime soon – at least not until everyone can tie the knot!

The 44-year-old comedian made her first appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday, telling host Ellen DeGeneres she doesn’t plan to get married until same-sex marriage is legalized everywhere.

“Who would? That said I love when my friends get married and I’m so happy for them,” she said. “But I just don’t understand the instinct to want to join a club that is elitist. I mean it’s like joining a country club that doesn’t allow Jews or black people. What’s the difference?”

DeGeneres, who thanked her on behalf of “all gays,” called Silverman’s attitude “admirable.”

“I appreciate that you say something like that it’s just ya know it’s vocal and it’s important,” DeGeneres, 57, said.

“And besides that I don t know that I would want to get the government involved in my love. Personally,” Silverman retorted.

The A Million Ways to Die in the West actress also opened up about her relationship with Sheen, whom she was first spotted with in February 2014.

“We like almost none of the same things,” Silverman joked about the Masters of Sex star.

“I mean we’re like-minded in I think the most important ways, but he like loves magic and loves going to pirate adventure,” she said. “He likes going to pirate adventure and things like that that I would rather be home and watching Law and Order,” she said, before expressing her personal hatred for one of Sheen’s favorites.

“I just feel like if you think that magicians are really magic you should maybe not be able to vote,” she said.
